  • File for unemployment immediately, because weekly benefits don't start until the week that you finish the process of filing for unemployment.
  • To make weekly claims for benefits from Kansas, call Sundays, after noon, 913-287-6913 or go to www.GetKansasBenefits.gov, make sure you have your pin number.
  • To make weekly claims for benefits from Missouri, go to https://labor.mo.gov. People receiving unemployment insurance from Missouri need to visit a Missouri Career Center at least once a month and fill out a form on www.MissouriCareerSource.com using a State computer.
  • Your (Kansas) unemployment insurance money is provided via a debit card. If you want to avoid ATM fees, you can go to YOUR bank and ask for a cash advance. They can transfer up to $1500 to your account. You may need to wait 72 hours before you will be able to make additional transfers.
  • To determine how many weeks of UI you will receive, look at the letter which you received from your state, and divide the Total benefit by the Number of Weeks.

Funding for Training - Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)
  • The Kansas Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) can provide up to $4000 (free) for training.  The Missouri program can provide up to $6000 (free) for training.  Training must be completed in 1 year. Program must be approved in advance.  A certificate must be granted at successful completion of the training program.  You cannot get more than one certificate as part of the program.  Your training money must be approved before you get your next job.  Being in WIA does not cancel unemployment payments, however, if requested, you will need to go to www.getkansasbenefits.gov, select "Forms", print and fax the "Approved Training/School Request" with your WIA approval pages. 
  • To participate in WIA you will need an advisor at the Kansas Workforce Partnership or Missouri Career Source to "intake" your admission into the program.
  • To search for training providers:  Click here.  Select "Training provider search".  Select "Local area: III".  For "Services Provided", check the box for "WIA Approved".  Press the "Search" button.  Click on each provider, then click on the "Programs" tab.  Course must have a "yes" in the approved column.
